Cycling with Waster Control?
I was reading the labels on my can of Hagen Waste Control and it says as a warning that when dosing with waste control, ammonia levels may rise....
Does this mean what I think it means? Can you fishless cycle a tank using only Waste Control? Because that would save me a ton of money, I got his big thing of waste control that I don't use and I have to spend money on pure ammonia.
Think it would work? Should I do all out on a 10 gallon experiment and see if it works?

Ohh that could be good, I have some waste control bottles that I no longer use (back in the time I didn't knew anything about cycling and stuff like that)...
so, if you ever give it a try, let us know ^_^
tho I'm sure some people might have better answers that what I could have said ...

LOL, sorry, just realised that on the title I put waster control instead of waste control. Man, with this 15min editing thing I have to start checking over my spelling!

Uhm, well no.
Waste control is supposed to degrade fish wastes and in doing so may increase ammonia. So in order to cycle, you'd need to have fish waste in your tank ... and therefore fish.
To be honest, I dump the bottles when I get them with aquarium kits.My AC Fish Gallery:

Yup, Sasquatch is dead on on this one. Since it is a waste controler it implies that waste needs to be present.

Awwww.... well, what if I did the cheap cycling method of dumping a ton of fish food in and letting it rot? Wouldn't adding waster
control speed it up a little?
I'm really just looking for a way to use up all this waste control that comes with the starter kits and that I have left over from years ago.

How can you get cheaper than pure ammonia?
I paid 2.39$ for a 2L bottle, that's enough to cycle a whole lot of water!
When's the last time you paid less than 2.39$ for a bottle of fish food?
Also, Waste Control is supposed to be a bacterial suspension ... so if it's been lying around for a long time, it's probably not any good. If it was a good thing to start with ... the jury is still out on that one!My AC Fish Gallery:

Sorry, didn't mean to say it was cheaper, just that I have waste control lying around and I have to go buy ammonia every now and then. Also, I can't find ammonia in anything bigger than 250mL, and it's 1.99 I think.
