So my master plan eventually is to set up a better cichlid tank..not to much bigger..but maybe like a 40g or whatever is around that size.....with more natural looking layout....such as a few rock caves and some real plants...? Just wondering what type of plant is easy to take care of? And can your order live plants online?? Our lfs...aka walmart...doesn't have very nice or healthy looking plants..

My other thank i think ill make a community tank...and the leave the decorations and such in there...as they did cost quite a bit in the end!

Another poster asks a similar question this morning and he got some good answers. Low light plants. I think that post might help answer some of your questions for you, too, and I posted a link of different light levels needed for different plants.

Check out the thread just under this one.

You'll never regret making the switch to live plants..

    You CAN get them online..

    There's a distributor for www.aquariumplants.com in Winnipeg..

    Check them out..

As for which plants to get, what is your lighting situation? What will the tank temperature be set at?

Let us know and we can start to narrow the list down..
    75g - 20 cardinals : 7 panda cory : 5 Julii cory : 9 zebra danios : 1 CAE : 2 SAE : 2 yo-yos : 1 BN
    25g: 5 long-finned zebra danios

I almost always buy plants online. Good quality and much cheaper. the plants can be a little smaller when ordered than in the fish store.
Do as I say. Not as I do.

    Ok, that helps..

As xunny says, cichlid dig at plant roots, so you would be better off keeping the fake plants with them in my opinion, and the real ones with the community tank your going to make out of this current tank of yours..

Oh really?? Hmm thats good new then! Haha..however i still would like more rocks in the cichlid tank..its hard to find them in 5 feet of snow right now...well its starting to warm up here...but i want some nice slate ones...

What is the next tank size up from 29 gallon, can you get pretty much any size..this one i got a really good deal only 100 bucks for everything..hope i can find another decent deal.

Yeah, I'm waiting on the snow to melt so I can rock hunt, too..

    Next size up from a 29g is a 55g, I think..

Do you think you'll be upgrading the lighting for the tank you have now, to have plants in?

What kind of community fish are you thinking?

I've heard good reviews from www.aquariumplants.com and plan on using them when I set up my 65.

http://www.alysta.com/books/fishtank.htm shows basic tank sizes, not sure what you can get from Walmart though!
35 Gallon (36" Long) See my tank pics and stats: My Blog
Plants: Amazon Swords, Cabombas, Jungle Vals, Water Wisterias, Java Moss, Java Ferns
Fish: 6 Bronze Cories, 10 Harlequin Rasboras, 3 Sunset Thick-Lipped Gouramis, 4 (tiny) Keyhole Cichlids, 6 Otos, 1 or 2 Ghost Shrimp

    Side effects of MTS:
65 Gallon, 10 Gallon, 29 Gallon (all empty or cycling)
