Im pretty sure its a beta, not good at fish names (chinese fighting fish?)
Anyways, what would be a good type of plant to get for it?

Betta (AKA Siamese fighting fish, AKA Betta splendens), you can use:
lemna minor (duckweed) a nice small floating plant nice for its nest,
java fern (Microsorium generum),
Java Moss (Vesicularia generum),
Hygrophila difformis (i dont know the english commom name for this one),
and Ceratopteris generum (also dont know english name) tha can be used also floating for ligth cover and nest structure.
