Typical male mistake.
I went to look at a trickle filter a couple of days ago and was so impressed with it (and the great price-just $25), I bought it. I was looking at it and told the guy that It looked like the right size to fit under my tank. I bring it home, set it down by the aquarium I want to use it on, and thing to myself, "Gee, that's not going to fit through the front!" I get to thinking some more. I figure that I will just drain the tank again, pull the stand away from the wall and slip the filter in through the back. I open the door to my stand and start wondering if it will even fit. It is only then that I go and grab my tape measure!......Yep, the filter is 13 inches wide and the stand is only 11 3/4 inch wide. Why-oh-why didn't I just measure it before I got it?

If it's not used can't you return it? Still a bummer though. Sorry.

Is that middle board supporting anything? maybe you can just take that part out for now then nail it back in once you have the filter in.
If not see if you can take it back.

I got it off of craigslist for dirt cheap. I don't think the guy would apreciate having to sell it again. I know that they make narrower versions of these filters so that they can be used on a 55 gal tank, but new, they are expensive! There are a couple of reef and salt water only stores in town, perhaps they may take it for partial trade on a new one or another used one.
I also thought about removing the center piece, but it does help support the center of the tank. I would also have to remove the center piece at the rear of the cabinet as well for it to fit.
I'm starting to feel like the guy that buys a new tub for his bathroom and winds up putting in a picture window because he didn't measure the hallway!55 gal planted
