Feeding
I just bought a tiger oscar. I did a search on feeding them live fish and read alot about raising your own is the way to go. I have a fish tank full of baby mollies. Could I use them as feeder fish. Thanks.

You cacn feed the mollys as feeders but that should not be its main source of food. You should feed it a staple such as hikari or nls. You shold also feed some krill and bloodworms and peas.

You could feed feeders. Home raised are the best, but be sure to feed your feeders a highly nutritional diet as well.
They shouldn't be the only source of food, as was posted. Find a high quality food as a staple.
Remember, feeding Oscars live feeders tends to bring the "hunter" out in them, which can cause aggressiveness as well.
The peas will keep their digestion regular, and bloodworms as a treat. I also feed my Oscar fresh raw Tilapia or de-shelled shrimp every one in awhile, as well. The former ZCciVic22!

feeders arent necessary. even if you raise healthy feeders it causes aggressiveness and like civic said the hunter in them.
give him some NLS or hikari pellets, the odd bit of frozen food, some live crickets, and thats a perfect diet

I have been feeding them hikori pellets and frozen bloodworm and shrimp. I can feed them live crickets. I will have to try that. Thanks for the help.

Whoa wait, time out...From your signature it says you have the oscar in a 30g???? You do know they get 15-18" right?? Tank should be a minimum of 55 gallons, and 75 after he gets to around 11". No need for feeders. Just feed hikari or nls as the main food. If you have hikari then feed a varied diet. If you feed new life spectrum then from my understanding, theres no need to vary the diet. But either way be sure to not just feed feeders. Its not healthy and can cause HITH.

I do have him in a 30 gal right now. I bought him this weekend and he is about 3 inches. i am going to get a 75 gal or maybe even a 90 gal in a couple month and set that up for him. I just have so many mollie babies and though it would be neat to feed him one or two every once in awhile. I am mostly going to feed him pellets and frozen food. Thanks for the help.

good job on knowing proper tank size
i had mine as a juvenile in a 50g long, and adult in my 90g, his mood from the 50g to 90g was incredible, he was super happy
i raised him from 4" to 12", on march 1st when i was at work he somehow slipped through the 2" gap at the back of my tank and i found him dead on the floor. anywho thats off topic. lol
