Eco-Complete
I was checking out prices for the Eco-Complete Plant Substrate, and I saw a couple pictures of the grains. Is this a sand substrate or more of a gravel substrate?

Its actually both. theres a gravvel like layer and than theres a sand like layer that settles to the bottom. Although I wouldnt say the "sand layer" is as fine as sand

In between..
(smallest sized grains are not as small as sand, and at their largest not as big as your bigger gravel pebbles)75g - 20 cardinals : 7 panda cory : 5 Julii cory : 9 zebra danios : 1 CAE : 2 SAE : 2 yo-yos : 1 BN

I'll never go back to regular gravel again. I'm using it here:

Using a vac it can be a pain because if you use a small one, the small particles will blow into the vac and you have to shake them out. But the fish seem to love it (especially corys) and the overall effect is so much more natural and less artifical than the black gravel I was using. I don't care for those brook pebbles look that appears to scatter color everywhere either,

Oh. But when I see it online, it just has one layer or whatever. So, you have to buy two bags - one for the bottom and one for the top?

No it all comes in one bag. Its "self separating". The smaller sand like particles go to the bottom naturally since its so tiny while the gravel like layer stays at the top since its larger. In This picture you can see the top layer

I was going to get Tahitian Moon Sand to cover my cable heaters..
Wonder if I'll need them, now, if the "sand" in the eco-complete is going to settle and cover it..
Hmm....
How long does it take to settle?
I wonder if it would conduct and distribute heat as well as the sand..
