The color doesn't change much as they grow, though the fins may show better color. I had a group in a 55 as dithers for cichlids a couple years back. About that time I was setting up a 10 gallon for cherry shrimp, and found a single tiny fry had been sent along with the shipment of shrimp and plants. About a week or two later, another one turned up in the tank, apparently there had been a couple eggs on the plants. Eventually they grew large enough to ID, and I was pleasantly surprised to find they were more praecox rainbows. They eventually joined the group in the 55.
