Thread: my new tank

  1. Default my new tank

    i have just got a 40cmx20cmx20cm tank and i wanted to no how many and what fish i should put in it, guppies, mollies, etc

    it will have a filter but not a heater, what species dont need a heater please name as many as possible.

    I think you are going to find that you are pretty limited to a small amount of fish....I don't work with liters here in the US, but the measurements using Williams calculators worked out to roughly just over 4 us gal, which is pretty small. Bettas work great in setups like that....are very personable fish if they see alot of you, and although a heater would be nice, stable temps are more important. I have found with my 5 gal I am better off without a heater because the light heats it up so much, and with the closed lid it retains the heat quite well.
    Goldfish are a cold water fish but need more space, but be forewarned a fishstore will likely tell you it will be okay.
