Which are you?
I have seen a lot of responses to many questions here. I have also enjoyed the numerous posts. I would like to try a poll here, as I haven't done it yet, and am curious to see what happens.
When keeping fish, are you a:
1.) Breeder? (not a commercial breeder)
2.) Just a hobbist to keep fish?
3.) Other?
Why are you what you are?Last edited by Adrianpaul32; 02-24-2008 at 03:54 PM.

hobbiest...... I doubt you'd find many breeders here as they are going to keep packed tanks which 99% of the people here discourage.....
Alot of members have spawnings but not for breeder purposes75 Gallon South Cichlid: Tiger Oscar and Jack Dempsey
55 Gallon GT Tank: 1 Male GT and 8 Giant Danio
20 Gallon Long: Waiting for eco-complete planted red substrate that has been delayed 2 weeks due to weather.

I think that is what I meant. Breed fish to just breed them, not for sale so to speak. Like buying guppies, just to see if they can have more guppies. Not so much as commercial, but to just play around with the idea of raising other fish.

im a hobbist who occasionally wants to breed some of her fish in a happy friendly, not overly cramped situation.

...and for what it's worth...
I'm totally opposed to the average fish-keeper breeding fish.
I believe you have an obligaton to any critters that you 'produce'...and since we're already having issues with an exploding pet population, why add to it? There's no need.
If you then argue that these are 'just' fish...but at the same time state that their health and well-being are of utmost importance...then you're being a hypocrite...you cannot breed fish and guarantee the well-being of every offspring...55 g Goldfish Tank - 5 Fancies, 2 Dojos

I am a hobbyist who does want to turn into a registered breeder, so I may have some creditable backing so I will be able to sale my fish, but only breed key fish and not mast produce them. good clean healthy fish.

But breeding fish is the next step in the hobby, and no they are not just fish. they are my fish, and yes I do want them to be healthy, happy as much as a fish can be happy.

I just cant see how breeding fish will add to a over exploding pet population, you talk has if their cat and dogs.
Spade or Neuter your fish to help control the pet population.
