New HOB filter
Well after discussing on the forums, I got to know that canister filters are the best and HOB filters are the next best. So I got myself a HOB filter. My LFS had only one brand called Dolphin (I guess chinese make) and its rater for 210 G/hr. My tank is a 30G tank. Is this ok? I have a 300G/hr internal power filter in this tank and I just some additional filteration because I am going to stock cichlids.

I am planning a pair of convict cichlids in 30G (may be with some corys) Current media in filter is only a rack of sponge and a rack with carbon, but I am planning to add more, I have the space for more... may be ceramic rings??? I donno how to find them. My LFS has no more media! :)

30% less means ~150 G/hr and at max flow rate I suppose. (there is a knob on the inlet pipe to adjust the flow rate)

if the convicts spawn the cories will be killed.
also, carbon is not needed, i would just use the sponge, and ceramic rings

at present the carbon is filled inside one of the media trays that came with the filter, I will need to tear open the pouch to get the carbon out.

I disagree that HOBs are second rate to canisters! I think they're a better choice for smaller tanks...

i still see them as second, all of my tanks besides my 55g reef have a canister (enough live rock to filter). canisters force the water through the media while HOB's just let it flow through

I agree, it all depends on the tank and how they are set up.
