hope this works!
Ok, I have been struggling for the last 7 weeks trying to cycle my tank with no luck. (fish cycle) I went to Petsmart today and they gave me a bag of gravel and water from there established tank to put in my aquarium. How long should I expect to see some results??
I have not even seen a trace of nitrites or nitrates in the last 7 weeks. Just ammonia, and I have been doing the water changes every day.
46 gallon tank with 5 zebra danios, 1 black molly, 1 dalmation molly, 3 red wag platy and 2 guppies. ammonia is at .25 now

did you use any gravel or a old filter when you started this cycle and also how big is the tank.... The water will not do much except bring nitrates along... The gravel should help though....
75 Gallon South Cichlid: Tiger Oscar and Jack Dempsey
55 Gallon GT Tank: 1 Male GT and 8 Giant Danio
20 Gallon Long: Waiting for eco-complete planted red substrate that has been delayed 2 weeks due to weather.

Do you have any friends with established cycled tanks that you could get some squeezings out of their filters. This would help a lot to speed up the proccess.

I just got back from Petsmart and they gave me small bag of gravel from 1 of their established tanks. I added that to my tank.

Lucky duck, my lfs would never give me any driftwood or gravel, even when I paid them.
It should speed up the cycle quite a bit. Hope everything works well!
