  1. Default Extra filter media question

Hey all, I have a penguin 330 HOB filter and was wondering what is the best way to use additional filter media. I know that Marineland makes its own media basket, but I don't see any at the LFS (just online). Can I just use those biobags? Or do I have to get the Marineland ones?

Also, what additional media should I get? I have just noticed that there is a lot of fine particles floating around and I want to get rid of them. Filter floss?
55g long - 6 neon tetras, 2 guppies (one tequila sunrise, one fancy tail), 1 sunburst platy, 2 cory cat's, 1 oto cat

10g - 3 guppy fry from my fancy tail

Filter floss or cotton are the best 2 for removing small particles.

But how do I use those with my penguin filter?

there is no real good way to run it in a HOB filter, but you could try to get one of the penguin media baskets, and fill it with filter floss.

I picked up a roll of blue/white bulk pond filter media on e-bay a couple years ago. It's quite handy stuff, can be cut to any size or shape you like, to fit just about any type of filter. A bit of that, folded or rolled, would fit nicely into a penguin HOB.

I seen guys on here post that they cut open the blue pads take out the carbon and jam the stuffing inside the blue pad?? Never tried it myself though as I use Aquaclears.
