Thread: Breeding Rams

  1. Default Breeding Rams

Is it possible to breed german blue rams in a tank with a pH of 8.2 and hard water? When my Flavus cichlids go Im thinking i might keep a dozen german blue rams my gourami and my pleco in a 38 gallon and singling out a pair {male and female} and breeding them.

    Thanks,

    Patriot

Many fish will tolerate an improper ph but will not reach their full potential and breed. GBR's like the ph 6.5 up to 7.0 and gh around 7 so they don't like hard water.

German Blue rams are very weak due to crossing and breeding..... They can adjust to the PH but you need to make sure it is stable..... What is up with your flavus cichlids... Bored with them already???

55 Gallon GT Tank: 1 Male GT and 8 Giant Danio

20 Gallon Long: Waiting for eco-complete planted red substrate that has been delayed 2 weeks due to weather.

The flavus cichlids seem to kill any fish i want to put in with them.

So your saying that they want soft acidic water with a pH of about 7.0 to be at there best. I have read that floating plants help dim the light for them so there cloration turnsout better and they enjoy a planted aquarium so i will probably try keeeping some live plants as well.

Also this will make it so i can keep my bristlenose pleco in the 38g and the blue gourami also and use the 10g as a fry tank or hospital.

Good idea with the fry/hospital tank, they are a great investment.

Breeding rams isn't the easiest thing in the world, and you would probably be moer sucessful with a lower pH.
