betta questions
okay my sister and I are in an on-going battle. She has a small 3gal tank and wants a fish. I suggested a single betta, he'd be happy, and she could still get the stupid snail she insists on for some reason, without any problems.
But now she has some friend telling her that betta are boring and they never do anything they dont swim around or anything. I insisted that it was that the fish at petsmart and petco aren't the best cared for or in the nicest of water conditions sitting around in their sad little cups but she begs-to-differ.
So I promised her I would ask y'all because you know bettas better than any high school kid working at the local betta "puppy mill" petco.
Are they that "boring?"
Do they swim around?
Is it poor water/habitat conditions that make them seem so... "dull" to her friend???
Whats the trick, what are the answers??? thanks so much for any help :)~

Well, my betta is very active and interesting! He builds bubblenests everynight - its sooooo cool to watch him create one! With patience you can even teach them to do small tasks, my betta skims over the water and grabs his food from my finger and is getting used to the net easily ^_^

Make their habitat more enjoyable and interesting.
They like plants, things to look at.
You can always give them a little fighting practice by holding up a mirror to the tank for a minute or two and see them flare up and try to attack the reflection in the mirror.
If fed at the same time, they quickly learn about dinnertime and so can promptly come looking when you draw near at the right time.Currently: Spotted Blue-eyes, two species of Australian shrimp, Ornate Rainbowfish, Guppies, Corydoras, goldfish.
