MY big plans
howdy all once again
i am here for pionters
firstly i am about to become a registered breeder and fish keeper in the ACT,
very exciting it seems i dont have much to do to be able to become one,
the reason i am doing this is because i am going to start to buy gouramis, non agressive cichlids and bristle noses so I can sell the breeding pairs and the fry from them.
now here is my thought
i am going to raise them and sell them as a proven breeding pair, big bucks if i can pull it off and being registered means better customers and happier customers,
i need advice on setting my 4ft tank up to get these pairs to start breeding so i can start sellin them,
i am putting in a u bend pipe for the key hole and taking hobbs idea of the stackin of pipe caves, now is there any other diy ideas on the cichlid comfort factor?
secondly i am looking for idea of the same manner for the gouramis any help would be great
also what do you think of my plans
i would love to see what reactions members have to this
thanks all

for one, I am with ya, I think it would be nice to be able to sell your hard work and have fun doing so. as for breeding it is going to be a hit and miss ordeal, and will take time in getting it down. keep records of what you have done so you will not repeat your mistakes. sec thing is common fish do not sell or sell real fast. there is a fish out there or was back in the day, that you can only buy them as pairs and go for about 75$ a set but I cant remember there name. you'll need to look for fish that there is a market for. breeding convict will not make you rich, not saying you are gong to breed them but used more for an example.
I wish you luck.
oh ya, you have any free samples for QA testing? lolLast edited by Pr0eve; 01-12-2008 at 01:15 AM.

thank gm for fixing it for me
thanks for the pionter pr0eve, i am looking at those breeds cause they are easy to get rid of and in high demand
the LFS will pay big for proven pairs, as well as the private market
sorry for sounding dumb but what is the QA testing?

GREAT idea! a couple of years ago i bred and sold fish for profit, mainly albino cory's, show guppies, oscars, and plecos
gouramis like floating plants for breeding and cichlids like driftwood and caves

How exactly do you become a registered breeder? I've been selling fish for credit for a little while now and it would be nice to make some money on it. Even though that money will probably go right back to my fish. Do you need to keep the breeding parents in the same tank by themselves or would they be ok in the community?
I hope you do well with your gouramis. They need some floating plants but also an area of little water movement to make their bubble nest. They usually make their nests in the area of littlest current whether it's among the plants or in an open area of the tank. Also feed them lots of live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms and tubifex worms.
