Providing good meals
Doesnt algae provide a good meal for some fish? Im thinking loaches!

Yes, it is, as there's far more herbivors and omnivores in the fish world, and even the carnivors get their veggies by eating the herbivors and omnivores. Providing green algae for Otocinclus and their close kin is the key to keeping them alive long term.
