Thread: Corydoras

  1. #1

    Default Corydoras

What is the most common corydora that can be found at LFS that the adult size stays relatively small at least 2" or smaller?
Stock the tank you have, not the tank you plan to have. Always have and use patience.

For those of you who want a SW tank and never have had one before or just starting out, read this blog entry from my blog on AC, it will give you a place to start.

well i would say the pygmy (sp?) cory. They stay fairly small. or you could go the bronze cory. I believe the bronze cory stays fairly small.

but the pygmy is the smallest i know of.

what size of tank are you planning on putting them in???
you will need about 5 of them.

Panda Corydoras or Corydoras Metae are really cute and stays at 2" other than that you are better looking at the smaller cory's - hastatus, habrosus or pygmy like Squirt mentioned

There are others around 2" but they are hard to find and the other more common ones grow larger

Hastatus, habrosus, and pygmy cories, I think are almost impossible for me to find. So after those three probably the panda would be the next smallest? They will be in a 20g when I finally get them along with the 5 leopard danios and 3 otocinlus.

I like my Panda, but make sure you tank is fully cycled. I accidentally killed 2 by introducing them too early. Strangely the originaly I had from the beginning lived through it all (used the fish for the cycle). I think the shock is what got the other 2 which were introduced once I thought the cycle was complete.

I have Spotted Corys that I got from Pet Smart and they were small when I got them and they don't really seem to be growing much bigger. I also have Julii and he's less than 2". I have 5 total in a 20g long. I like Pandas but they are expensive and don't seem as hardy as the Spotted ones I have now.
    My tank:
20g long - 8 Trigonostigma heteromorpha, 2 Corydoras brevirostris, 2 Corydoras agassizii, 1 Corydoras trilineatus named Julian

Whatever you decide on....i recommend getting about 5 of them seeing as they are a schooling fish. Alot of people make the mistake of just buying 1 and then the fish gets lonley. So i would get 3-5 min. Its just like the neons and other schooling fish.
