You can use a 5gallon aquarium tank in your above-mentioned space, but 10 Gallon is better than 5g. Because sometimes African butterfly-type fish can go out of the aquarium tank by jumping. However, if you want 10g just stretch out the space a little bit and buy a Penn Plax curved corner glass aquarium with 17.8 x 11.8 x 12.6 inches dimension or Lifeguard Aquatics Crystal Aquarium 18 x 12 x 12 inches dimension aquarium. Both are very nice, unique and user friendly.
