Ick treatment/temperature interactions

Hi everyone,

This is my first post and I'm hoping someone will be able to help.

I currently have a Ich infestation and unfortunately I failed to quarantine.

I have increased the temperature to about 30C, and have added white spot treatment (Foramlin and Malachite Green). I have lost 4 fish but I suspect there was nothing I could do about that.

My question is: does the temperature of the water affect the effectiveness of the treatment, or does it only affect the cycle of the Ich?

I ask because I notice lots of tomonts on my Bacopa plants, but they disappear and then reappear a couple of days later, and I have read articles that say it needs to done every day, but others saying to do it less often, but the temperature doesn't seem to be changed.

I don't know if I have to retreat in line with the expected "cycle length", or if I can still redo it every 3 days (as recommended on the packaging).

I'd appreciate it if someone can confirm if I need to do it each day, or just once every 3.

You should use higher temp OR meds, but not both.

Temperature affects treatment and life cycle of ich. Temperature decreases oxygen content of the water as you raise it. It doesn't affect the medication. Medication will also reduce amount of possible oxygen in the water. 77F is good enough for the temperature when in use with medication. At 86F the capability of the ich to reproduce is disruptive but not completely stopped.


Pay attention to In vivo-bath dosages because that's what is used in tank. This study also shows which lifecycle of the ich that the medication is most effective, and what possible loss of fish may occur.
