    Hi ya...

In a spin off from my original post:

    http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/aqua...d.php?t=129715

I am thinking of treating my Glofish for constipation with a Epsom salt bath. He didnt go for the pea treatment.

I would like to know how to do this and also, considering that hes 4 years old....with this be to harsh for him.

What are your experiences with this treatment?

    Thanks
    -John.

1 Tablespoon per gallon for 15 minutes. You can let the fish sit longer, up to 30 but you need to watch them as some fish don't take it as well as others. Also use either tank water or conditioned tap water the same temperature as your tank.

Just FYI a tablespoon equals 3 teaspoons, so one teaspoon per 1/3 of a gallon works as well (that's 5 1/3 cups). Just make sure all of the salt is dissolved.

Regarding the pea treatment, sometimes you have to fast the fish a couple days to get them to eat the peas or other high fiber veggie. The veggies should be blanched and in bite size (aprox) pieces. My tetras always loved blanched peas (removed from shell and minced into small bits) even my loaches and cory joined in feasing on them.

    Hello Bondava,

    Re:

....Very useful. I wouldnt have know that. I havent fed him in a couple days so I wouldnt contribute to the constipation so I will try the pea treatment again tomorrow.

    Re:

How do fish tolerate this process? I ask because its not like his a big strong cichlid or something. He's just a little, 4 year old Glofish Tetra and I dont want to harm him.

Thanks very much for the very useful information.

    - John.

    Hi Boundava...

I did the procedure and it went okay. He tolerated it fine.
Thanks for the info, I was nervous trying something like this on a little fish.

Im not sure if he actually had constipation or not, but it was a step.

    Thanks

    John.
