New Otos - Feeding

Hi all,

New otos came in on Saturday. This is the very first time I am trying my hand at owning and caring for these amazing fish.
They are going to live for now in my 30 cm cube tank which is heavily planted.
They were drip acclimatised. My planted tank is full of green dust algae and green spot algae.
I have deliberately skipped the glass scraping in the last couple of water changes.
There is green algae on the surface of the stones in the tank.

The otos have been at grazing full of yesterday clinically moving over the glass, plants and stones.
They say that a fat Oto is a happy Oto.
There is a slight bulge in their stomach with the feeding, but not sure if this is enough. Posting some pics.

I want to make sure that I care for them enough so that they are able to make it though the first couple months.

Offer them algae wafers, and fresh blanched veggies.

They constantly feed on algae, hopefully you have enough built up in your tank.

Congrats on your otots! They are mean green eating machines so will power through tank algae surprisingly fast. The supplemental food suggested above are a good idea.

Thanks. Already started them on algae wafers. I have both the wafers from Hikari and New life spectrum. Will try both. Hopefully they will take a taste for it. Will try giving blanched veggies this weekend. Hopefully they should do well. They are super cute pets to keep.

Algae wafers did not work. The shrimps went for it as usual but the Otos did not mind the wafers at all.

They are still doing ok, the tummies are rounded from all the bio film and algae in the tank.

Will try some blanched veggies next.

Oto's like "some" protein as well. Daphnia, Brineshrimp.

You can crumble food (flakes) so particles will cover the leafs. They'll scavage those.

These are probably wildcaught and won't recognise algaewafers ditectly as food I think.

They took to grazing on both blanched spinach and cucumber.

They are usually with full bellies now.

I love the Otos.

When I had otocinclus they made sure the leave was clean when they say algae on it.
