    Default Best tankmates for clownfish?

Iím really interested in having some clownfish. What are the best tank mates for them? Which species of clownfish are easiest to care for if youíre reasonably new? I've read so many different things and some are contradictory. How do I know which is accurate? So...asking here - people who know! TIA!

I do not know anything about salt water tanks and there are only a few members here who do. But just doing some (lots) of research should get you to a point of comfort with some decisions you can make. Often there are more ways than one to accomplish the same thing. Here's one article I found that seems pretty good -

Also, where are you getting your fish from? A good local fish store can be a source of information and assistance.

I currently have had a golden stripe maroon clownfish in the past and currently have a black & white Ocellaris. I've only owned single specimens and thus have no experience in keeping multiple clownfish.

I'd characterize their care as being easy; other clowns are probably similar to keep I would imagine. They can be territorial but are not troublemakers, and can fend for themselves.

I've kept the following fish with clownfish with no issue: dwarf angelfish, various damsels, flame hawkfish, royal gramma, tomini tang, blenny, and paddlefin wrasse with no real issues. I kept the maroon clownfish in a fish only set up. It didn't bother anyone and no one bothered it.

My ocellaris has claimed a large frogspawn coral and will defend fend it from any fish that swims in its vicinity, which is essentially the entire far-right side of the tank:

It will 'display' which will cause most fish just to swim away. My flame hawkfish would sometimes perch in the area and stay put. They would have rare show downs, but nothing serious.

What type of contradictory info did you come across in regards to clownfish?

I honestly have nothing to do with saltwater tanks. All i know is it might be good to get your regular orange clownfish. Easy to keep but need some high maintenance and should usually be kept alone.
