I saw a video shot in a Mexican river a few years ago. Same thing, but the narrator said they were completely stripping the available food, starving out native species. Essentially like an aquatic swarm of locusts, but they don't disappear at the end of a season.

Yeah, T&B, that's what invasives tend to do. It's the same way with the carp up here.

I watched a vid one time (probably on this forum!) where a couple guys caught a few of those huge plecos in Florida and cooked them up. Once they got over the idea, which took some effort, they said they were actually very good. And really, they're no uglier than a crawdad, lobster, or channel catfish, and I've enjoyed all of those. But still...I think I'd have to be pretty hungry.

Those feral hogs, though: I'd have no qualms about throwing some of that in the smoker!

Feral hogs are abundant where I live, so much so that they allow them to be shot from helicopters in certain instances...and heck yeah, they are very tasty.

Hey, Matt, if you're ever in the mood for some good hunting videos, check out Clay Hayes on youtube. He's got a whole series on hunting feral hogs in Florida with primitive bows. Then there's Ryan Gill (his channel is called HuntPrimitive) who goes after them with an atlatl, and chases them down Mongol-style with a horse bow. Cool stuff. I guess hogs are fairly challenging to hunt, even though there are so many of them, because they're so dang smart.

I've expressed before that carp shooting is sort of a semi-guilty pleasure for me, being an opportunity to gratuitously slaughter something while still doing something good for the environment. Hunting hogs (and maybe plecos???) would be even better, because in addition to all that, they're good to eat, too! What's not to love. If I ever get down your way, I'll look you up.
