    Smile Stocking 16 gallon

So pretty sure I am one of the very few people who have never actually kept guppies or neon tetras ever.

With that being said, should I split between the 2? Or would it be better to get more of just one type? I want a lot of activity, I love the look of both but I feel like I could get away with more neons than guppies (but I love the variety of colors a guppy gives.)

Also I would love to add in come corys and cherry shrimp at some point too if I can, I've had both before and they are just too cute!

I feel like I'm in information overload with everything (or dreaming a little too large for the size tank I have. lol)
I've never stocked this size tank before. I know the inch per gallon rule is taken very loosely depending on fish slenderness etc.

And if anyone has any other interesting stocking ideas please let me know! I'm currently cycling so I have plenty of time to plan and very open to changing my current ideas. :)

    Thanks in advance!

Inch per gallon rule is hogwash....after all, would it be wise to keep a 10" fish in a 10G tank?

As for stocking, if you want alot of fry, go with the guppys, they breed like crazy....sometimes overwhelming a tank...but not always

If you have access to cardinal tetras, I'd get them instead of neons...neons are overbred to the point where many times, they are not in the best of health, right from the store...they even have their own disease, do a search for "neon tetra disease"

Cardinals are just as pretty (IMO) and are usually healthy, from reputable sources

I think it would be fun to have some fry swim around, but I definitely don't know what I'd do if my tank was overwhelmed (once this virus mess is over with there is a new LFS sort of near me I want to check out.)
And I will look into Cardinals! There are a few places I have previously bought fish from online that more than likely have them. Good to know, thanks :)

Take a look also at green neon tetras as an alternative to the regular neons or cardinals. If you decide on guppies, you can add all males and thus have no breeding. The males are more colorful also over females.

You can also look at habrosus cories, one of the dwarfs, as an option for the lower level of the tank.

Very good suggestion on the Green neons
