Hey guys, I am not completely new to the forum- my old account-username kattiq, can't be accessed but I've just started back into the hobby after a few years! :)

So I have cycled tanks in the past using ammonia before and doing water testing kits, but I have heard of another method that just uses plants (following aquarium co-op's video I posted below). And once you see new growth/algae you know its converting and making the appropriate bacteria to then support a few fish at a time.

Tank Info:

I currently have a 16g waterbox- low tech planted
Plants: 6 swords, 3 anubias and some java moss
Substrate: Fluval stratum
Filtration: Sponge filter and a marina slim s20 HOB filter (to be changed to more filtration down the road if needed)
Lighting: 11W NICREW light https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My question is, has anyone here done it successfully? If so, how long did it take you, is there anything to watch out for that can slow the process?
I just planted and got the tank ready last night so I just wanted some feedback and tips to get it started.
