    More than welcome.

Just wondering what signs fish present with old age vs disease...
If his spine is anything like mine, old age definitely is a factor, and not a good one, lol

If the guppy is obviously in distress, best to euthanize, IMO

I don't use clove oil, I prefer an ice/tank water slurry, then freeze immediately...it's quick

Blue moscow passed this morning. He was still rallying to eat breakfast but shortly after was so weak his little body was sucked onto the filter intake. I shut it off and he swam off of it but was obviously super weak. Pulled him out and put him in a separate bowl where he could pass in peace. He was in and out of consciousness with periods of his gills stopping. I sped it up with some clove oil. Didn't know if he was suffering or not... I was surprised it didn't just keep him knocked out as I thought it was an anesthetic but shortly after pouring it in he rallied again-put the higher dosage in shortly after and in a few minutes he was gone. :-(

And also fyi, his spine was perfectly straight after he passed. I do think it was him just being really tired and his tail weighing him down... there were periods where he would just go with it and be vertical for a short time.

Another lesson in the circle of life for my 4 year old!

Agree with above, it will help on both accounts; those nutso neons!

Sorry about your loss with the guppy. I haven't had guppies long enough to see what happens with old age, but when betas were not so inbred and they lived past 2 years (closer to 5+) they would also develop curved spines due to age and the weight of their tails and be very lethargic as it was too much effort to swim unless they were greeting me for food. Nowadays betas rarely live past 2 and based on my past couple years they are highly prone to tumors and unseen issues that result in dropsy and death too soon for their little lives. They have been inbred too much and this is the result.

I get the same result with the clove oil, it may be astringent and the fish's first reaction is to rally before succumbing to the anesthetic properties. At a high enough dose it is always a peaceful end and my chosen way to euthanize, though it makes it hard to enjoy cloves during the holidays.
