Too bad about the LFS, there are many different tetras to choose from, big variety of looks and colors

I believe I read you have a high ph in your tap/tank water, may not be ideal for the spotted blue-eyes: https://www.seriouslyfish.com/specie...gil-gertrudae/

If you are certain you are going to keep shellies, I'd advise researching for fish that will do well with the water params the shellies require.

I see you have 2 threads going on this tank, may be best to combine them, to keep all of your info in one spot, and to avoid confusion/duplicate posts...I can combine the 2 threads if you wish, just let me know

My pH is looking about 7.4-7.6 - I totally forgot to check that parameter, thanks for the reminder!

I've not had a 20G set up since I moved about 4 years ago, so if it's my old post from way back then it's a completely different situation these days (well, except the axolotl and geckos, my ex kept the rest of the tanks) - no need to merge, in my mind these are two different beasts, this new set up has way more research and experience built into it this time!

That's totally fine! There's a bunch of us out here setting up tanks!

You did bring up the thought of the dwarf cichlid family.... Apistogama's would be interesting, but after some research... I'm still not sure what should go in that will fit the tank well. Hohum.

I think another tour of the LFS will be in order!

A dangerous idea... I tend to come home with something on a regular basis - more than likely I'll be coming home with more plants!, plus the Marine fish keep whispering sweet nothings to me which is starting to get harder to ignore, lol.

One of the folks in another forum recommended these guys: https://www.shrimpfever.com/shop/fis...ted-blue-eyes/

I've not seen them before, and don't really know what they're like.
They are very nice fish, get large enough school and he males are very fun to watch as they spar with each other. I had some along with the blue eyed forktails in a 75 gallon with various other tetras. They did very well but are a bit on the $$$ side as they are still considered "exotic" and "rare".

Smaller tetras like glowlight or enber would work well in a 20, but they also may predate on the baby/juvi shrimp. I had shrimp wit embers and the shrimp just existed-no population explosions so I suspect the newbies we being snacked on.

Needing some advice cause everywhere I read I'm getting different answers.- and I'm probably toeing the line to this being on Dwarf Cichlid part of the forum, but I didn't want multi posts.

Apistos... cockatoos to be exact - I've been seeing different requirements for tank size for them. I was thinking about them years back and never jumped on the cichlid train, but my Hubby last night was looking though youtube at someone's channel saying "great 20G fish" and there they were on their #4 - Apistogrammas

Looking into them more I've seen people say min 15 Gal, 20G and also min 30Gal.. so I'm all confused as to if these fish could live a comfy life in our 20G High --- Hubby also wants to add fish that will live peacefully with them, so we're looking at top swimmers, and maybe Kuhli Loach? (read somewhere that they wont be bothered since they're on a different time cycle)

Another thought is the German Ram -- In my mind they'd act similarly to the Apistos? In reality it comes down to what we see as a regular arrival at our LFS, and not have to ask them to special order -- also price, I don't want to pay a huge fee for a pair of fish for our little 20G.

Also trying to work out what fish will appreciate the Seachem Florurite substrate since it's kinda clay like.

At times like this, I'm glad it takes a while for the tank to properly cycle!

I always defer to seriouslyfish.com for info on fish requirements: https://www.seriouslyfish.com/specie...a-cacatuoides/

Here's more good info, notice they suggest a 20L over a 20H for tank size: http://www.tfhmagazine.com/details/a...ll-article.htm
