Yeah, I've considered those before as well, but with 5 tanks all in different areas of the house, just too pricey

I’ve only got the two tanks and there is usually little to nothing in the 20 gallon QT. Just 3 zebra danios that were jerks in the 38 gallon so they stay there always and then have visitors if something needs QTd. That said the 38 is my focus

Yeah, they can be that way sometimes...in large groups, they'll spread the aggression among themselves, in small numbers, they'll sometimes choose other fish to pick on

I want to say I started with either 9 or 12 of them, still no luck. One of them is the main culprit we call her big Bertha. She chases and nips constantly. If it wasn’t for her maybe would have been okay. The three that are left have been alive for better than a year now tho and doing well in the QT. Hindsight I probably should have just gotten rid of her and then the other 8-11 would have still been around today. Not just 2. But she has always been the biggest and has a nice pattern on her side.

I think some of the problems with fin nips I had in the tank was actually her and not the serape, just didn’t didn’t realize it until the serape were gone.

Another option I just thought if that could work to power all of the current equipment I have is a UPS like you would use for electronics. Seems like those are 40-100 dollars though.
UPS won't last very long with heaters. Would only be used for filters or air pumps.

Right, I guess my focus was the filtration and pumps. Not that water temperature doesn’t matter.

My post seem to have dissappeared. Any way, I am also contemplating just running my tanks off 12v air pumps with sponge filters. My only problem is heating. Our power cuts are severe. Anywhere from 2 to 4 hours. Now there is talk of 10 hour power cuts. All this power issues has put a real damper on me keeping fish to a point where I dont want tanks anymore. My aquascape tank has been hit the hardest with outages.

What is the longest time period you are away from the tank? A filter can go a couple days without power, but if its a HOB its not doing your tank any good VS a in tank sponge which can still provide some filtration albeit at a reduced rate. Biggest concern is temperature fluctuation and I haven't seen a remedy for that other than a generator, but you would want to be home for that.

There are a lot of fish (not just goldfish) that do well in the 50F-84F, and some actually require the lower temperature for longevity. Of course you would have to stock less.
