    Default Tank Water Circulation

    0 Not allowed!
Iíve recently been wondering if the water circulation in my 38 gallon (36 long, 20 high, 12 wide) is appropriate.

I often have areas where things seem to settle and though I clean the tank regularly and have success keeping mid and upper level dwellers I have continuously struggled with bottom sellers along with getting good plan growth in my tank(despite adding seachem flourish and good lighting)

The tank has 2 AC 50s which st 200 GPH should turn over the volume of water 10 times an hour or so which seems like itís at or above recommendations. It also has an air stone in the middle in the back wall of the tank.

One item i see is that I donít think the intake tubes are long enough. Currently they are a good 12+ inches from the substrate. I have some extension tubes on order Iím going to get those extended down in hopes of creating some better circulation and movement at the bottom across the substrate.

Aside from extending the intake tubes Iím wondering if getting the filters more towards the center of the tank wouldnít help. Currently because of the orientation of the holes in the factory lid both filters are on the left side of the tank. I think this may be contributing to some
Dead zones on the right side. Thoughts on this (if necessary) were to either modify the lid and try to move the filters to the middle or to possibly get a power head for the right side back wall that would create the same circulation pattern as the filters but on the right side of the tank.

Current thought is Iíll start with the lengthened intake tubes and go from there.

I will include a basic diagram of the current layout.

Thanks in advance for your input.

That is a link to an old video of the aquarium from a year ago or so(kind of makes me miss the serape)

Rock cave is no longer, tree decoration is now in the very middle. There is a large artificial plant on left side and on right side of tank in back corners. There are small live plants on each side of the air bubbles. Filter Hester air bubble orientation have not changed.

I would try to have the filters on opposite sides of the tank, back left corner and back right corner.

    The extension tubes should help.

Seems like that wood create dead zone in the middle, no?

So maybe start with the extension tubes and see how that goes first? No on a power head?

I have an AC70 and an AC30 on my tall 29G, opposite back corners, and have great circulation

I'd move the filters, add the extensions, and see what happens...no need to spend $ just yet on equipment you may not need

Just thinking of a power head would do the trick id rather spend the $10-$20 on that and save my self the haste of needing to take everything apart modify the cover and rearrange everything.

I see you have a bubbler, why not just add another one in the dead spot using a T connector? That's much cheaper modification than adding and then removing a powerhead in case you don't like it.

So your thought is add another bubbler towards the right side of the aquarium or possibly even to just shift that one over?

Also there is a big hole in the cover to accommodate both AC50s If I wanted to move one to the right I’d have to fit another opening and then would be left with an oversized one on the left side.
