    Default Classroom Aquarium

I am starting a tank in my classroom this year. It's a 55 gallon. Here is a list of fish I would like to have in the tank...

    Redtail shark
    Gold Barbs
    Giant Danios
    Blue Gouramis
Tetras (Redeye, maybe some glow or neon)

    Are these all compatible?

    What about #'s?

    Any other comments/advice?

    No on the shark
    https://www.seriouslyfish.com/specie...nchos-bicolor/
They prefer river type setups, need clean water and become very territorial and agressive toward other fish.

The giant danios will be very active and gourami tend to be more timid.

The gold barbs are colder water fish too, tetras need warmer waters. Look at the Ffish parameters at www.seriouslyfish.com.
You need to see if they are compatible temp, pH, hardness and what their home environment is like, i. e river, peat bog, stagnant pool...

Ok. Interesting. First person to say they aren't compatible. And I based the types of fish off of multiple sites saying they are all compatible.

I will look further into it

Do your OWN research, and see what you find.

Excellent advice above about researching fish on seriouslyfish.com....pay special attention to water param needs, tank size, and behavior and compatibility

No on the redtail, gold, blue and opaline gourami would be fine. A bn pleco, and some assorted tetras would work if you stick to the round bodies like serpea, lemon, black skirts, glo tetra, etc. Giant danios might outgrow the tank, so try zebras. Take all advise with a grain of salt, do your own research and see if it seem to match this board and the internet, even then your experience could be different than you've read. I saw a 10" Oscar and a gold gourami that lived together in a 29 gallon and were best buddies for years, go figure!

I want the Redtail as my center piece fish. What do you guys suggest to go with it?

Here's an interesting article on this fish and there is a video imbedded in the article

    https://meethepet.com/red-tailed-shark/

And here's another video from someone I follow who I think has great information. He has also answered questions for me I have posted in the comments sections, so you could post a question and see if he might answer you, although this video is a little older.

Based on the information in my post above, I'd say you could do some of what you're looking at. But I'd maybe stock only one or two other species and make sure you provide the hiding places the red tail would like. I'd nix the neons and not sure what you mean by "glow". There are glowlight tetras (I wouldn't add here), and "glow" barbs and "glow" tetras like the black skirts, both of which are just genetically modified barbs and tetras.

Another great barb to look at - but I don't know if it would work or not - is the Odessa barb. Some gold barbs with Odessa barbs would look great to me, but keep looking for compatibility information. Sometimes, things will work that others might not try. Just be prepared to have a plan B, if things get tough.
