I am so sorry you had such a bad experience with that moving company and I hope you gave them the review they deserved! I think it's safe to say that all your turtle items were stolen. People can be such jerks. I am glad all your animals and plants are safe! Welcome back to the hobby.

We moved almost two years ago (October will be 2 years) and I have had my survivors living out of two tubs since them. Also my box turtle is living out of another under bead storage container. First hiccup was an unfinished basement, now we are just piecing it all together-slowly but surely. Tubs don't seem to be detrimental to the fish, the only detrimental thing is a kitten that likes to pull the screen lids off to go fishing or tips the lids in the tanks and the lighting that sits on top of the lids also gets dunked. I also have a tub of plants that I moved with and have been growing for the day the tanks will be set up.

I luckily found someone selling a 65 gallon turtle tank on Craigslist.

The odd thing was everything for the turtle was missing. The aquarium stand, heat lamps, hood, his land, food, all of the extra accessories that was in the stand, all of it gone.

I am also glad you brought your family with you; the stuff the horrible company broke can be replaced. Have you spoken either with your insurance company or theirs over the damage to your property?

The rubbermades seemed to be a good place for them to live but not being able to see my fish easily was kind of sad. I bought black, opaque rubbermades for the move.

My turtle (a sawback map turtle) is almost 10 years old, I have had him since highschool. I dont think I could handle losing him.

I called the company and ended up talking to the owner. He dismissed my claims especially about the missing items. So, I contacted my insurance and they are currently looking into it. In retrospect many of the reviews for the moving company seem fake.

I know exactly what you mean about not seeing the fish. I had 3 young pearl gouramis that have grown up in the black tubs. I can only see glimpses of them through the tanning water and plants floating in the tub, I hope they will like going back into a tank-they were shy when I had them in the 75 gallon almost 2 years ago. My pleco loves it though, it will be a shock to him when he gets back into a glass tank and has to go back to hiding. The black tubs are the sturdiest-I would not put fish in a clear storage tote. I am using the Home Depot HDX brand totes, the two I have are listed as 55 gallon tubs but hold about 40 gallons of water. I had a bunch of tetras and other tropical fish when I move, but unfortunately packed them with an assortment of corys. The majority of which were albino aeneus cory. They stressed out and in panic released some toxins in the water. By moving night and the next day all of my tropical fish were dead and some of my 11 year old bandit and pepper corys were dying. Fortunately I had separated my kuhli and dojo loaches, gouramis and plecos to the second tub. I kick myself to this day for not isolating the corys because I knew they could do that. In the craziness of the move it just slipped my mind.

My box turtle was my brother's, he got her when he was 11. she has been with me since my brother moved out and left her and I have had her in the family for 20 some years. I could not imagine losing her. Funny how they work their ways into our hearts-huh? That is one neat looking turtle BTW, I had rescued a red slider as a child-she had been hit by a car and her shell was cracked. She soon out grew her tank and went to my Uncle's pond to live her days back in the wild.

I hope your insurance company can help you recover some of the losses. That owner from the moving company is a real peice of work. It may be a pain, but I would file a claim with Better Business Bureau
https://www.bbb.org/ too. We were fortunate with our movers, they were amazing and took great care of the tanks and furniture. It was a Chicago based moving company that a friend referred us to.
