Default Cloudy water that never goes away!

So my 180g always has a slight cloudiness to it, but nothing to serious. Last week though I was a way for 5 days and my roommate “took care of the tank”. When I arrived back 1. The light was on, the glass was full of green algae and the water was extremely cloudy( not green water though). He advised me the light was on for 5 days straight. 2. I feed my 180 strictly frozen blood worms. Usually I feed slightly more then one cube twice a day. My roommate told me he feed 3 cubes 1x a day.

I did 3- 45-50 gallon water changes last week and added Seachems Clarity twice. The water did clear up a little, but the water is still plenty cloudy. Tested the ammonia today and it’s 0. I thing I’ll clean my filter next and see what happens.

What filter are you using? I run 3 aquaclear 110's on my 220, ran 2 on the 125, never had cloudy water. I only ever use 2 sponges in each filter for bio and mechanical filtration.

I suspect the cloudiness is due to the stingrays stirring up the sand. Your canister is only rated to turn over the water volume of the tank 2x/hour. Keep in mind, that rating is with an empty canister, not including filter media. More filtration would help, but the stingrays are going to outgrow the tank fairly quickly in any case, as will the TSN catfish.

Yes the Stingrays do stir up the sand, but this is the first time its this Cloudy. Lets see what the tank looks like tomorrow morning. I cleaned the filter and added Seachems Clarity today. Im upgrading to a 300g wide in October. 6L x 27HX 3W

Do you think a aquaclear 110 on the other side of the tank would help out?

I did make a post last year when I bought my tank that I though I had to little filtration, but it was said that even though it’s only rated for ..... the filter has 5 baskets of media so it would work pretty good for a 180g by it self.
