Red-bellied Pacu *help
Hey everyone i was reading and i found this!
http://www.tropicalresources.net/php...macropomum.php
I have a red-bellied pacu and it does grow pretty big!
I'm so scared because as the link says u need a 500 gal tank and they are usually public aquariums! What the heck do they sell them in stores!! AHHH plus they said they are known to break tanks when they get startled!!!!!!!!!, i'm not sure if i should return it, i have a 74 gal tank(i think its pretty big tank) but for a fish growin to be 34 ''!!!?or more!!
Any help?

i have a pacu too. they need 500g+ tanks and are monsters.
if you can give him to someone with a huge tank, keep him. if not, sell him
(im getting a 150g for mine, and once he outgrows that hes going to west edmonton malls 2000g)

How big is your pacu now? Any tankmates? If no tankmates you could keep him until hes atleast 25 inches. But by the time hes that big, id be a little scared to "net" him out lol.

Obviously your pacu isnt that big yet if your other fish are still alive, unless your other fish are big?

I would get rid of hit. No use in risking the lives of your other fish.

Not agreeing with keeping a pacu, or any fish for that matter, at 25" in a 74 gallon tank. Isn't a standard 75 gallon tank only 18 inches front to back?
8 tanks running now:
1x 220 gallon, 2x55 gallon, 1x40 gallon long, 1x29 gallon, 1x20 gallon long, 1x5.5 gallon, 1x2 gallon
Gouramis, barbs, rasboras, plecos, corys, tetras, fancy guppies, swordtails, ottos, rainbow shark, upside-down catfish, snails, and Max and Sparkles the bettas.

People keep Oscars that get to 20 inches rarely more without trouble, Depending on the fish 25 inches could work.

Still not feeling it. Please consider fish happiness in addition to health.
