A few questions...why the low water level?...because of the turtle?

And you don't fear the turtle preying upon the fish?
Yeah, water level is low so turtle can bask without climbing out of the tank. And not really, I've had him with fish for years now without issue.

    Interesting.

Does he get his own specific food, apart from the fish he's been with, and the ones presently?

What kind of turtle is he, and how large?...is he fully grown?

Yes, but no. I feed him specific food, but he forages algae wafers and will eat New Life Spec. and Northfin pellets. Previous fish he's been with loved his food and would eat it too.

He's a three stripe mud turtle. Four inches is the general maximum size for the species; he's just under that, so very well may be full grown.

What do you mean by "dried botanicals"? Do you plan to add any green rooted plants of the kind found in the Amazon? I think a little more greenery, beside the floating greens, would add to the visual interest. I love the turtle, and the dark substrate. Would the turtle eat your plants? I assume there are green river plants in the Amazon in the wild?

Check out tanninaquatics to see what I'm referring to. As for plants, I'm doing a very rough biotope of the Orinoco river, which is nutrient poor and supports fewer plants than one would imagine. And the turtle does enjoy chewing on plants.
