    Default Stocking my 40 Gallon

    1 Not allowed!
    Hi Everyone,

I am looking to stock my 40 gallon tank and I need a bit of help. I would like to put in:
    7 Tiger Barbs
    7 Zebra Danios
    7 Panda Corys
    2 Pearl Gouramis

Is there anything else I could add to the tank or would this be all that would fit and would all these fish get along? I have decorated my tank with driftwood and am using gravel.
My tank is cycled and is ready to start adding fish.

    Thanks for your help!!

Use the above link for some general advice, but I can tell you right away, tiger barbs are not the ideal community tank fish, especially for a beginner....see the link below, pay special attention to the "Behavior and Compatibility" section

What Slap said, instead see if you can find some 5 banded barbs, Desmopuntius pentazona, smaller, peaceful and just as colorful ;-)

A nice group of Cherry barbs (at least 10) would also look nice in your tank.

I agree. Based on my experience with both, the 5 banded are a much more peaceful community fish and just as colorful.

There are some really beautiful barbs out there.
You just see the same ones at the LFS and it appears to be a rather boring group of fish ( well, except for the Tiger barb; even in the LFS these barbs are pretty spectacular).
I actually have never kept a barb in my many years of fish-keeping. I need to try some.
I wonder if there is a Congo variety. Ill have to look :)

I've also never kept barbs and love the Odessa, black ruby, snakeskin and golden barbs. I need to start thinking about downsizing, rather than adding tanks but if I were starting out again, I have a barb tank, for sure.

You've gotten some great advice in this thread. I am looking forward to hearing what direction you take your tank.

Another vote for pentazonas here. I've had some for quite a long time and they're beautiful, peaceful, and rather shy. I've wanted to try cherry barbs for a long time, too. And odessa barbs...and and and...

We might want @Boundava to chime in here about gold barbs, too...didn't you keep some in a 40 for a while?
