    Default stabilizing new aquarium

My water has chloramide(?) which I have been told is chlorinated and ammonia laden. Fish are suffering. One angelfish died and the remaining two are laboring near the top. When the nitrites spiked I did a 20% water change and cleaned the gravel and filter, but now ammonia is high due to water change. How do I stabilize this new aquarium?

    Welcome to the AC.

Use Seachem Prime for your water conditioner

How long has the tank been set up?

    Did you cycle the tank?

You need to use a water conditioner that neutralizes both chlorine and live ammonia called Prime.

Been set up a month. Put 6 cichlids in it and they dies within a week. 19 gallon bowfront kit. I guess it has cycled by now. How long should I wait to add fish after I add prime today?

You need a liquid test kit like the API freshwater master test kit to measure the ammonia and nitrite levels. If they die in a week, it's because your tank is not cycled. It can take up to 3 months to cycle with fish in the tank.

Don't add anymore fish until your tank is fully cycled, which it is not.

How many fish are in the tank right now?

Great advice from all of the above. Since you are cycling with fish you should read this (maybe even print it out as reference for the next month(s)):

    http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/aqua...ad.php?t=36492

Once you have the test kit you should measure the ammonia and nitrites daily and do appropriate water changes to get those at appropriate levels for the fish. Ammonia and nitrites should not be more than 0.25, 0.5 max.

You might also want to consider Seachem's Stability - https://www.seachem.com/stability.php

And possibly combine with Seachem's AmGuard - https://www.seachem.com/amguard.php
