Advice/comments on glofish danios.
0
Hi.
- 10g tank
- 6 glofish danios
- sponge filters sized for 20g
- plastic plants, decor
- 15lb gravel
- temperature of 77F
- glass cover to control temp and evaporation
The tank will cycle with sponges form our established tank.
This will be our first tropical fish tank.
Is there anything that I'm forgetting?
Is the 77F temperature good for the zebra danios (glofish danios)?
Would a glass cover cut the O2 too much?
Thanks!

Only problem I see is keeping such active fish in such a relatively small tank. Sort of like putting a group of hyperactive small children into a closet, those fish really should have at least a 20 long. The black tetras or tiger barbs they are now selling with the same glo genes would be a better option IMO. The sponge filter will be fine, presumably there will be a plastic strip along the back of the glass top to allow for a heater cord and airline to enter the tank.

Good suggestion on the tank size. I totally agree, and I'll change it to a 20g long.
I'd like to stay with the danios because son likes their looks; hard to change fish : )
I'm hoping to have everything setup tomorrow.

20 long is a great size that also leaves room for perhaps some dwarf cories for the bottom portion - maybe cory habrosus, although sand would be a better option than gravel if cories are considered. Your original list did not mention a light, but I assume that's in the plan, too. Also, don't forget a dechlorinator like Prime for your water and an the API Mater Fresh Water Test Kit. And a glass cover is a not a problem - I have them on all 7 of my tanks - helps with keeping fish from jumping and slows evaporation.
Is this for a young son? While not a fan of the glo-fish myself, I understand the attraction for young kids.

Welcome back to the AC
The above confuses me a bit, first tropical fish tank, but you have established media from another?
Agree with the others on the bigger tank size

Not sure about bottom fish yet, so I'll definitely keep the cories in mind. The 20g would allow us to add more danios later and maybe some shrimp.
Thanks about the light. I forgot about it as we've never used any lighting for our aquariums. Do you have any suggestions? After a bit of research, it seems that many people go with blue LEDs.
Yes, my son is 8yrs old and decided that he wants glofish. Frankly, I'm a bit afraid of this aquarium (about the looks it's going to take on... with the glofish, gloplants, glogravel).

We have 2 non-tropical, freshwater aquariums holding goldfish and fathead minnows.

It can serve as a night light.
