    Question Shrimp for 10g tank

    0 Not allowed!
I want to get some shrimp to help with keeping the algae down in my tank, it's only 10G. Hopefully going to stock with 6 cherry barbs if I can find any around me. Also, if anyone has suggestions for places to order shrimp/fish from online that would be appreciated.

Here's one site I've had good dealings with.

    https://aquaticarts.com/

There are tons of others out there, but I am usually able to buy locally so have not bought too many live fish/shrimp on-line. Others should have some options for you.

Best shrimp for algae issues would be amanos. They won't breed in your tank, however, if you were looking for that. But you should also consider what conditions may be contributing to the algae you're getting and look to remedy those, if possible.

Depending on where you live in Michigan there is a fish store in Bryan Ohio that sells them.

It's not that algae is a big issue, I just would like something to help keep my tank clean, and I've wanted to try keeping shrimp for a while now. Them breeding isn't a big deal to me right now.

Same here lol. If you would be interested in making the drive he is pretty helpful on Facebook. If you messaged him I'm sure he would tell you what he has that way you didn't drive down there for nothing. It's called LaBo's Aquatics.

If you are looking for plain shrimp, try to find local clubs-they often have culls that they sell for cheaper, of look for "algae shrimp", grass shrimp or ghost shrimp at big chain stores. If you are looking for colored neocaridina then those sites are good.

Most areas that have a C/L well have breeders selling shrimp. Stick with cherry shrimp if your new to shrimp.

For a 10 gallon, neocaridina shrimp first come to mind. They have beautiful colors and fairly easy to sustain a colony for generations. So my advice is to be careful if mixing colors. Not all genes go together, eventually the genetic pool would regress to wild type. So best plan is to start with one strain type, male and female, let them breed and establish a colony before you add the barbs.

Because if you're planning to keep cherry barbs in a 10g, you might have trouble keeping a nice colony of neocaridina shrimp because they will predate on the shrimplets if they can find them. So you still might be able to keep a small group with enough cover. They might not try to get an adult female since they are larger, but no neo shrimp is safe with barbs.

My amanos have been the best at cleaning and picking algae, the only thing is I find them too active for a 10 gallon I think. These guys kind out freak me out the way they can climb out and they are really fast taking up a lot of space when they are breeding. Maybe only one?

Also, I've never tried ghost shrimp, so no experience, but I think they are good little inexpensive scavengers. Not sure of the correct size of tank for them either though.
