So my Gar started yesterday in one section of the tank going up and down the glass chancing its reflection. It does it all day.
Did my research online and supposedly there is no reflection. Just a seethru glass. I sure see the Gars reflection when I look side ways into the tank, but nothing when I look straight in.
I saw advice online to put paper on the glass for a few days on the section the fish does this. Now my Gar just stays in the section were I put paper towel on,but does not swim up and down the glass anymore. He will start to leave the area were the paper towel is and it's like something in his brain sends him back. If I put a paper on the glass in fron of him and move it the Gar will fallow it,but once I take it away it swims back to the corner.
My Stingray will press up against the glass once and a while, but only for a minute.

There's a youtube GoPro camera video in an aquarium, and it does show a reflection within the tank. Just leave the tank light off above the tank. The brighter light in the room will prevent the reflection as long as the tank light is off.

Lighting affects a possibility of reflection and how easily it can be seen the same way you can see into a lit house, but you can't see our into the night that well.

If viewed on an angle, just like we see the reflection on an angle, there is a reflection, but looking straight on and the reflection disappears. I read the fish can be confused since it's there out of the corner of their eye, then gone again. Also since the 'other fish' is not responding the way they normally would in nature when confronted. Obviously the 'other fish' is a reflection so copies what the original fish is doing.

It was also suggested that it may be annoying to the fish, kind of like a sibling imitating your every move.

It was suggested that some fish might be self aware, like wrasse or dolphins, but most of our fish do not recognize it as a reflection.

Boy, I sure do see reflections through the side panes of my tanks when looking from the front. When I try to count my fish, I have to be aware that I really don't have as many as the reflections might show, and to not count the reflections. Hard to avoid when the fish move around so swiftly.

    BTW, dolphins aren't fish.

It seems obvious his reflection is bothering the gar, or at least he was trying to check it out. Probably sees a competitor in the glass.

I think some animals are more self aware than we believe they are. They rely largely on instinct, but I think there's some learning and conscious awareness, as well. We're beginning to find out that animals aren't as "dumb" as we think.

The gar does not do it anymore since I put paper towels on that side of the tank. The Gar will stil stay more on that side of tank though. It's seems the Gars mind is playing tricks on it. It starts to Leave the area of paper towels and then does a twitch and turns back around. Any ideas how to end this?
