Yes, you can leave them in the pots for now. When you are ready to plant then just gently remove them from the pots and remove stuff from around the roots and plant as usual. Great save She looks pretty healthy.

On second glance, this may be a male plakat, after all...L got a good pic right here...looks like lots of scales missing from the head area, is my guess, from fighting? I'm no betta expert, but the discoloration is obvious

    Betta 1.jpg

The snail experiment lasted about 5 minutes, betta attacked the antennae, moved to the 29G and is chilling for now

    Betta snail.jpg

Here's what we have thrown together, don't judge too harshly, lol...Top Fin filter, no-name-non-adjustable heater, deco she bought, and the 2 potted plants...he/she/it betta is going nuts around the plants, sifting through the sand, etc etc etc...just like I would do if I were released from a closet of my own filth, and introduced into a clean, new home

Fish-in cycle coming up, I'll deal with it for now until I can find a few seeded rings from another tank

that i sad but a testament to how hardy those Bettas can be. I am sure the one who survived would not have made it much longer though. double jackpot for him getting rescued plus getting rescued by someone who was able to make a great rescue and having a dad like you.

Thanks very much, Brian...yes, they are tough little fish, but need to be taken care of well, like any other fish

I'll have a short vid later, still unsure if it is male or female....maybe @Boundava will have a peek

That's a cute little setup and the betta really shines against the black substrate. I like the décor Lauren picked out too. That tank is going to look great with the plants planted and growing in. Good job!

If there were two together in one bowl, you can bet they were fighting (Siamese Fighting Fish, aka, Betta), which would explain the missing scales. A male will even attack a female, and certainly another male. That's why a female Betta has to be removed from a tank with a male immediately after breeding.

This fish has won the luck lottery.

People who go off and abandon pets without finding new homes for them, or someone to come in and take care of them in their absence, care very little about living creatures -- including other people. Who would feed their pets? They would starve to death. That would have been the fate of this fish. Glad those folks aren't living next door to us! Unfortunately, this world is full of those types. But, happily for us all, it's also filled with loving folks like you.

Sometimes the stars just align so perfectly - your daughter being familiar with fish care, her aunt being the one realtor to view the property, and the two of them being together that day. See, there was room in your home for another tank!

Tank looks great, as to the sex, I am not sure. Maybe this will help? I want to say girl because the ventral fins are relatively small, but not 100% as s/he looks young and may grow a bit more. Has the little one flared at anything, that would be a dead giveaway as to a little man.

    male-female-betta.jpg

BTW it is a plakat, and female betta can be as mean or meaner than males; so maybe they got a male and female cuase if they stuck two in a bowl they obviously don't know anything about betas, and she kicked his a$$,

I suspect Providence played a role in this? Mere chance? I wonder ... Things like this seem beyond the scope of coincidence, at least it seems that way to me.
