Default 40gal breeder sump overkill for 75gal?

The only reason I ask is because I have a 25 - 30 gal acrylic tank/unfinished sump I bought a while back was thinking of using that vs the ocean view 40b that would kill me if I have to use it as an sump.

40b isnít over kill, but will it fit? If itís a typical 75 then they are both 18Ē deep. If the sump is going under the tank.

I am not experienced with sumps, but more water is always better amid it looks like it fits nicely. But 30 and 40 gallons isn't a huge difference (I don't think) if you don't want to use your 40b for a sump. Is the 30g taller? Do you have to have access from the top? You might want more space at the top in that case, just something to consider. Also, I don't know if sumps are better being the same depth as the tank, or if it matters.

Will this be saltwater or freshwater? Just curious :)

No such thing as a sump being too big.

Itll be freshwater.... I know I know I wasn't it to be saltwater, just dont have the money for the extra supplies needed for salt water. I already have 3 planted freshwater tanks. Will be moving to another house, plan on just having that one 75gal for now as I'll have no time on my hands with me going back to school and working, hence why I'm making a sump so I wouldn't have to maintain it as often as I would have to with my 2 canister filters on my 55 currently.

Well, if it's your only tank, why not use the 40b? It looks good, fits well and the more water the better. I'm a FW planted tank enthusiast myself, I look forward to seeing how your tank comes together. You can even start a journal in the journal section here :)

I understand where you are coming from but bigger is better on sumps. Plus you can find nice baffle kits on ebay premade for 40b. They are a bit much for a freshwater, and include filter socks. But the advantage is if you ever switch the tank over to salt, you'll have a prime sump ready for it.

Awesome! Thank you for helping me out on that!!!! So if I do intend on switching to salt later down the road.... how should I set up the baffling in the sump as I know reef tank setups include room for all the extra equipment.
