You still have flake pieces decaying somewhere. Unlike liquid ammonia, you can't control the ammonia output of the flakes, so for every 0.25ppm ammonia consumed, there could be 0.25ppm ammonia produced at the same time.

Do you recommend I do a partial water change or just wait? Does play sand help the cycle in any way?
Ow also the Nitrite dosen't turn purple then back to blue like I have read when the Nitrite is to high. It just stays blue for more then 5 minutes. Again this has been the way since about day 7 and it's about day 20ish.

Wait it out, and substrate doesn't matter.

I haven't cycled an aquarium in years, I forgot how frustrating it is. I just either setup the new filter and run it on an existing setup or move a secondary filter to the new aquarium. Must make the setup all the more frustrating when you run into issues like this.

I agree with Rocksor though, you just have to wait it out now. Ammonia is being produced faster than your bacteria can handle, but the ammonia that is being converted isn't enough to overwhelm the bacteria feeding on nitrite.

    Very weird!!!

All test were done in the last 30 minutes. I shook the Nitrite bottle each time for about 15sec banging it a few times. Each time I shook the Nitrite vial each time vigorously each time upside down, back and forth and front side up.
    All test of tank water:
    Test 1
    image.jpg

Test 2 of Nitrite came out Purple

Test 3 of nitrite came out light blue

Test 4 Purple and test 5 Blue

Test 3 of nitrite was also blue.

Your nitrite tests are different levels and at times lower than where you the starting water level should be. That would account for the different readings.
