Default Out Of Prime? Use Chewable Vitamin C

    1 Not allowed!
When in a pinch, you can use asorbic acid found in chewable Vitamin C to render chloramine/chlorine harmless.

    https://www.fs.fed.us/t-d/pubs/html/.../05231301.html

    https://inspiredliving.com/chloramin...hloramines.htm

These guys has done the calculations of how much Vitamin C to use

    http://www.diyfishkeepers.com/forum/...-dechlorinator
    https://www.physicsforums.com/thread...ramine.857730/

Vitamin C will lower PH since it is an acid. So about 2 tablet of 500mg chewable Vitamin C should be more than enough for 1 gallon of water that has 4ppm chloramine/chlorine.

Does that not hurt the fish in the long run.....I mean as an alternative to traditional dechlorinator?

Vitamin C chewables or the asorbic acid use to dechlorinate? Asorbic acid is in a majority of fish pellets as a supplement, and also present in Seachem Garlic Guard, Boyd's Vitachem, and other vitamin supplements for fish.

Yes it is, but at a much lower rate\dosage? I know that over dosing humans with vitamin C is not good for the liver or kidneys. I guess if it's used as an emergency replacement for traditional dechlor the damage is limited. For example, if I change 15 gallon of water that has a 4ppm chlorine\chloramine content I would have to dose 15,000 mg of chewable c .... which maybe ok for an oscar or other larger fish, but for a tetra?

Maybe I should just throw a big ole peeled grapefruit into my tank at water change time

I think I'd just wait to do a WC until I got more Prime, but interesting concept nonetheless

I always order when my old bottle is around 1/3 full, only takes a few days to get...don't even know if any of the LFS around here carry it, it would be too pricey anyway

Oh, and hey, just a word of caution, I would not substitute Prime for vitamin C either. That's not going to end well.

LOL, just the smell alone would deter that action, I'm sure
