Yep, most of the old favorites, including livebearers are what I call reasonably priced.

There are many other freshwater fish besides characins, and most of those are much more expensive than these neons. Tetras are pretty much the cheapest fish you can get in the hobby, even only counting freshwater, which is why I found the post humorous. One can easily find angels, plecos, and discus that cost hundreds of dollars each.

Saltwater isn’t much different. Certain species can be had for very cheap in the $5 range, and others that are much more rare can cost thousands. I think the upper limit is higher in saltwater only because it is generally harder to successfully breed a lot of species in captivity, so certain ones must be wild-caught.

    You getting 6, 9, or 12?

Wonder why you can't buy 24?
Going with group of 9. Their stock is limited most likely. I ordered yesterday and none of the choices were x'ed out. Just noticed today that they're only offering the group of 6. Hopefully there's enough for my order.

$3.50 for a fish is super cheap haha The majority of fish in the hobby, both fresh and salt, are more expensive than that.
And take 40% off that price it's $2+

I often pay $4-6 and sometimes more for tetras and these were 40% off the price you see, so it was $2+ each - a bargain.

I don't think that's the case. Yesterday, the 24 group was available along with each of the other options, so I think they've probably just seen the stock dwindling with orders. I just tested and tried to put in 3 groups of 6, and it said I could only add 2 groups of 6.
