The day is almost done, but I watched an ESPN special: http://www.espn.com/espn/story/_/id/...81/sports-9-11, about that terrible day that was well done so I thought I'd post something about 911, "lest we forget".

I still think Allan Jackson captured so well what was going on with America after it happened, so here it goes.

Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.

I remember that day in 2001.

We hadn't moved into our house yet, and were still in our metal shop. I hadn't watched any TV yet that day, when our phone rang. It was a friend calling to tell us that a plane had flown into the World Trade Center. I thought she was joking. She told me to turn on the TV, which I did -- and saw it on the news. Shortly thereafter, I learned the blood mobile was going to be in town, so I called to donate blood for the survivors of that tragedy. They wouldn't take me, because it had been too short a time since I had last given blood, and they said it wouldn't be healthy for me. I was feeling fine, and didn't think that donating more blood would bother me, but they said I had to wait. Anyway, there weren't any survivors from those buildings to receive blood donations.

The two historical events that have occurred during my lifetime about which I shall always recall exactly where I was and what I was doing when they happened are that one, and the day President Kennedy was shot. Etched in my memory forever, despite the passing of many decades in the latter, and seventeen years in the former.

I'll never forget that day, I was at work (back when I was in supermarket management), and we all huddled in the breakroom in front of the TV, watching as it unfolded.

Never forget the innocents who lost their lives, the first responders heroic deeds (many of whom lost their lives, as well), but most importantly, don't forget how we all as Americans set aside our differences and united together to make our country whole again.

This song was inspired by that tragic day.

    I definitely remember.

I was working at a car dealership at the time. We had a customer bring his car in for servicing and needed to catch a flight. I took him to the drop-off area and there was a huge crowd outside. We were told all flights had been cancelled because a plane had crashed into the WTC. We knew nothing of the severity, so we assumed it was like something like a private pilot wrecking a little Cessna or something.

We drove back to the dealership, chatting about random things and not listening to the radio. When we arrived back to the dealership, everyone was crowded into the glass-walled waiting room, staring at the small TV in there.

"We are at war." I was told in a hushed voice as I walked towards the group to see what they were looking at. On the screen were shots of the Pentagon with what looked to be damage from a bomb/missile strike. Initial thoughts were that we had just entered a state of direct conflict with someone like Russia, and I was terrified...half expecting to see bombs raining down from the sky.

The Kennedy assassination was before my time. My first memory of a national/historic tragedy was watching the Challenger disaster on live television. I was sitting in the living room with my mother and grandmother, eagerly watching with a toy rocket in my hand and dreams of being an astronaut in my head. I was very young, just four years old, and it bothered me greatly because I didn't really understand what we had just witnessed as it played out on live TV. I remember my mother reacting quickly and abruptly turning the TV off, and trying to answer my questions regarding what we had seen.

It's funny how 99% of our days quickly fade away, never to be recalled again, yet we can remember with stark clarity certain events no matter how long ago they occurred.

Yeah, I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing. I watched a good share of it on TV. After the shock of it all I can remember being incredibly angry. I struggle with that same emotion every anniversary.

    I will never forget.

I was at my desk, on the 32nd floor. One of the executives had a tv in his office and several of us just stood in stunned silence, staring at the single standing tower. When the news reported a plane had crashed into it, I recall thinking that some pilot must have had a stroke or something... that this was a horrible accident.

When the second tower came down, all the smoke and dust obscured sight of it and I refused to believe my eyes for a moment. God rest those souls who lost their lives that day.
