Thanks to everyone for the advice. I will look into switching filters. My betta definitely had ich. Looked like he was dipped in salt. But I cured him!!! He's been ich free for 3 months and no one else in the tank appears to be sick. I'll stop using the salt as well as I've read that it's bad for the Corys - doing a daily water change of 10% so it comes out gradually. According to that nifty link for checking your aquarium stock, I can easily add another Panda, if not two - that would give me 4 to 5. The 3 Amigos (as I call them) seem pretty happy so far though.

    Cheers!!

sounds like a good plan with the Cories having a larger group. I also like the suggestion for the Aquaclear HOB since you can easily change out or rinse the sponge part and keep the biobeads in place. there are also other HOB filters out there that you can customize to some extent. there are lots of knowledgeable folks here to help you on your way.

I really can't add anything new to this thread. Everyone has given VERY good advice!

I was also "one of those people" who thought putting carbon in the filter was a good choice, but over time I learned that it's not needed and can actually leach what chemicals it "traps" back into the water after a period of time. Also, I'd add at least 1 more panda....they love to group up!

Yep, good advice here. I'm just chiming in to tell you that you're being smart seeking and heeding good advice. Also, panda cories make me happy.

Panda cories are a little smaller than some others and very cute. Three will do fine if necessary, but 5 is even better. The AQAdvisor can be a little conservative as Matt said, and as long as you are doing regular maintenance on this tank - i.e., weekly water changes and regular filter maintenance - there's no problem going a bit over the recommended stocking level.

Also, if you do end up getting an AC filter I would go with at least the AC30 for more filtration. I have an AC50 on my 10G and it works great. The more filtration that you have will allow you to increase your stock.

Lots of great advice, Prime is the best on the market, adding 2 more pandas should work fine, a better filter never hurts, but keep using the salt, bumble bee gobies are a light brackish fish that are very prone to fungus without any salt in the water.
