Oh wow, well I hope the new Bonnevilles still have that unique Triumph sound. Used to be able to tell that a Triumph or Harley was coming down the road from quite a few miles out.

They were Viceroys because their flight patterns were erratic and at sharp angles up and down with a lot of wing movement which is characteristic to them as opposed to Monarchs which more or less glide along in the breeze. It went on for hours in the veiled sunlight. I just couldn't take my eyes off of them, such beautiful, graceful creatures. They would engage each other in flight with glancing blows and then role over in a falling pattern only only to meet again at the apex of the struggle. It was not mating behavior because they never "backed up" to one another to couple for any length of time.

The things you see when you're not looking can be so beautiful.
One can also tell Viceroys apart from Monarchs by their size and the fact that the Viceroy butterfly has a thin black line going across the base of its rear wings, which is absent from the Monarch's wings. Viceroys are smaller.

Well yes, that's what I've read but they wouldn't hold still long enough for me to examine them so I went by their flight pattern.

They still sound like a Triumph and the bonneville bobber looks really really mean.

The thing that made me happy today...my dog, she came out of her crate and grabbed her rope and wanted to play tug of war/spin for a good 15minutes.

These also add a smile to the face and a nice straighten to your back when they launch.

Makes me smile to see Triumph keeping the classic Bonneville design alive. They must have a significant demand or they wouldn't do it.

Your telling is a thing of beauty and it brought me a smile. Thank you for taking the time to capture it in words.

There is a place I used to hike to/through frequently. I was able to visit one year during the Monarch migration through the area. It was fabulous! It is a known stop for them and there were thousands of butterflies. That experience is a treasure for me, and I still think on it, more than 2 decades later.

I would love to see that. I've only captured glimpses at one time. I have been very fortunate to witness a few miracles of nature and it happens when you least expect it. I have a feeling that if I sought it out I would never find it.
