I can’t seem to keep any inverts alive in one tank. I had one shrimp that lasted a week. The snails die within a day. I tested for copper there’s nothing. The tank is newish but all the tests for ammonia keep coming up with nothing. I do have some plants in there that didn’t do well. Could they be causing spikes that are killing them? I have fish in there that seem to be doing ok.

How long has the tank been set up/what size is it?

What are your nitrIte and nitrAte readings?...what about gh, kh, and ph?

What fish are in there now?...what kind of substrate?

It’s about 2 months now. 20 gallon tank.

I’ve only used test strips, it doesn’t show up with any ammonia nitrite or nitrate.

    Gh it shows as “soft”

    Kh is almost nothing

    Ph is about 6.8

My substrate is a mix of fluval plant/shrimp and Tahitian moon sand. I also recently threw in a small bit of crushed coral in hopes of raising the gh.

Right now I have 3 sparkling gourami and 1 cobra endler

I strongly urge you to get one of these...paper test strips are not reliable, especially if they have some age on them

    https://www.amazon.com/API-FRESHWATE.../dp/B000255NCI

I would not try to mess with gh or kh for now

After you get your liquid test kit, get some readings on your tank AND source water, and post here

I’ll do that but a couple days ago I added seachem purigen and polyfilter into my hob filter so that might change some stuff.

Those things shouldn't cause any issue, for now, I would watch and wait until you get your test kit

The majority of cycled FW tanks will show at least some nitrAte reading

It can't hurt to do your water changes on schedule, properly done they never hurt

What single shrimp did you have in the tank?...did it die, or disappear?

Be advised, Trichopsis pumila can be rough on inverts, any nano shrimp is fair game as a nice snack, in many cases

I had 10 Bloody Mary shrimp, but they all started dying 1 by 1. Half were dead the first day then a few more the next and after about 5 days there were 2 and then 1 survived a full week.

I didn’t know that about those fish. Someone told me they had them with their shrimp so I thought they were safe. Only that one remaining shrimp was still in the tank when I added those so I suppose they could’ve killed the last one.

I experimented with RCS and sparkling gouramis several years ago. I had good sized colonies of the shrimp in other tanks with larger fish so I just moved a few adults to this tank to try it out. Shrimp didn't last with the gouramis at all. Not sure why your snails are dying, though.
