Good idea, I can do the same for at least the power outage scenario so there is a view of what happens to the sump when the pump quits. I'll show what I did with the returns on mine to stop the syphon on my set up.

I guess I better work on my acting skills too.
haha, it might work. Sounds like you'll have a couple of videos to show him later too.

That would be great! I can show that to the hubs so he can get an idea of how it all works too.

The drilling template comes with the water line marked so you can see where it's going to be. On the bits, did you look on amazon? Their glass hole saw bits are about 6 or 7 dollars. My plan is to buy as many bits as I have holes, so I can use a brand new extra sharp bit on ever hole.

With that being said, he's right. The drilled options aren't really any cheaper unless you diy an overflow box which is an option. IF you decide to drill, look at the eshopps eclipse series. They come with everything you need including bits for drilling. Whatever you do, make sure you have at least two drain holes so you can run a nice quiet herbie style drain.
I hate to admit to this, but at the time that I was planning the tank and buying the items for it, I did not have a drill (I have one, now), so the cost of drilling would have included the cost of a drill haha

ha, yeah that would increase the cost a lot. That's pretty understandable.

That's one thing we have plenty of - drills! The hubs is a bit of a power tool hoarder. Well. He's just a bit of a hoarder all around. But he REALLY likes power tools.

What's nice with having us both post up videos is that you will get to see two different style sumps. My original plan was to go DIY and probably something similar to boof's. When I found my sump, I couldn't pass up the deal, it wasn't that much more expensive than a DIY. They have differn't baffle styles but function the same basic way. Plus what aquarist doesn't like showing off and talking about their tanks. Happy to help! Too bad we aren't closer, I would just come over and help plumb it when it was time.

I appreciate y'all taking the time to make the videos. I always enjoy seeing how other people have their systems set up. It really is too bad we're not closer. I would love to have friends in my area that are into aquariums. Although having fishy enablers handy to go shopping with would be dangerous. lol I haven't had any luck finding quilting buddies in my area either. You'd think with living in the third largest city in Missouri that there'd be more hobby minded folks around.
