Default adding to a 10 gal tank.

    Hi all,

I have a 10 gal tank with one male betta and 6 neon tetras. I was wondering if there is something else I could add. I know with the betta it is limited. Any suggestions? Could I add rasboras also? Thanks

I don't have a betta, so not sure of compatibility, but how about one of the dwarf cory species for the bottom:

Habrosus cory - will stay on the bottom, most similar to larger cories
Hastatus cory - will stay close to the bottom for feeding, but also swims mid-water and may hang out on a plant leaf
Pygmaeus cory - generally will swim all over

Also will depend on temp of your tank. Cories like it a little cooler than some other fish.

Or also look at rosey loaches -

I wouldn’t suggest adding anything. The tank is already overstocked IMO and there really shouldn’t be more than one school in a 10g, particularly a betta. I wouldn’t suggest any corie, Pygmy or not, the small varieties require a 15g minimum because they’re very active, IMO.
If you want to add anything to this tank, I’d suggest going with shrimp or snails. Ammanos or neos look very nice in a 10g. Rabbits and nerites also look lovely.

Just be careful, most betta will poke/bite at nerite snails and eat shrimp. I agree, your tank is already overstocked or at least near its max. Be happy your betta is tolerating the neons. If your filtration is good, maybe adding two more neons will broaden their behavior and make the tank appear livelier.

It will help you figure out the best stocking and let you know about contradictions.
